Peter King has been offering consultancy services in Sports Management since 2009, after 12 successful years at the helm of what became the most successful Olympic sport in Britain’s history at the Beijing Games in 2008. Peter was Chief Executive of British Cycling from February 1997 to December 2008 and an Executive Director from January 2009 to October 2014. During his tenure he oversaw a period during which the organisation has moved from the brink of insolvency, to being one of the most vibrant and successful governing bodies of sport in the UK.

Peter currently sits on the board of Sport Wales.

Apart from cycling, Peter has worked with fencing, boxing, modern pentathlon, canoeing, golf and shooting as well as in the multi-sport environments of Sport Wales, Commonwealth Games England and The Sport & Recreation Alliance.

Peter was made a CBE in 2008 in recognition of his services to cycling having previously been awarded one of the sport’s highest accolades, the Bidlake Trophy, in 2007. He was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame in 2010 and awarded British Cycling's Gold Medal of Honour in 2014.

Peter qualified as a Fellow in both the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a Global Management Accountant. In 1978 he founded a company specifically aimed at introducing high standards of corporate governance and reliable management accounting functions to small and medium sized businesses. He has a permanent place on the Board of the European Regions Airline Association Limited, and is primarily responsible for their financial affairs.

As well as cycling, Peter has competed at local, regional or national level in sports as diverse as athletics, table tennis, football, golf, squash, badminton and cricket and he has been involved as a volunteer official, coach or administrator in almost all of these sports. He is still a keen cyclist but no longer takes part in competitions.
